So there you have it: my first video. At the very least, I can say it’s out of the damn way.
I’ve been meaning to start doing this for a week or two. I’m starting to move more of my writing energy into long-term professional projects rather than blogging — book-writing, I mean (more on that later). Meanwhile I still feel the urge to be posting stuff regularly. Also, the more “intense” my writing gets, the more I feel I need to create casual, [self-deprecatingly] irreverent, and fun content to compensate.
I’ve totally adopted social media now — embracing the attitude of being personally out in the open all the time. This is like the consummatory last step into the brave new world.
I’m normally pretty conservative and restrained [or reticent, or whatever] (as the video demonstrates — I learned a lot about my personality tonight, by the way) but by now it’s obvious to me that this is the way things are going. YouTube is already huge but I think video hasn’t even exploded yet in the way it’s bound to in the next few years.
Obviously, I have a lot to learn. This isn’t just the first video I’ve posted, it’s also the first digital video I’ve ever recorded… I spent a good while futzing around with the settings and whatnot in my blip.tv profile. I started with blip.tv on the strength of Bill’s apparent recommendation and their sponsorship of PodCamp London (I’m looking forward to learning more in April).
So I suppose I’m now a podcaster. Cool. Apparently you’ll be able to subscribe here.
