My First…

So there you have it: my first video. At the very least, I can say it’s out of the damn way.

I’ve been meaning to start doing this for a week or two. I’m starting to move more of my writing energy into long-term professional projects rather than blogging — book-writing, I mean (more on that later). Meanwhile I still feel the urge to be posting stuff regularly. Also, the more “intense” my writing gets, the more I feel I need to create casual, [self-deprecatingly] irreverent, and fun content to compensate.

I’ve totally adopted social media now — embracing the attitude of being personally out in the open all the time. This is like the consummatory last step into the brave new world.

I’m normally pretty conservative and restrained [or reticent, or whatever] (as the video demonstrates — I learned a lot about my personality tonight, by the way) but by now it’s obvious to me that this is the way things are going. YouTube is already huge but I think video hasn’t even exploded yet in the way it’s bound to in the next few years.

Obviously, I have a lot to learn. This isn’t just the first video I’ve posted, it’s also the first digital video I’ve ever recorded… I spent a good while futzing around with the settings and whatnot in my blip.tv profile. I started with blip.tv on the strength of Bill’s apparent recommendation and their sponsorship of PodCamp London (I’m looking forward to learning more in April).

So I suppose I’m now a podcaster. Cool. Apparently you’ll be able to subscribe here.

Best thing I have heard all day. Take into consideration thought that it is only 6:54 in the AM.

Hey, this is great. Way to go. Like Kevin, the thing that struck me the most was the part about being sick of looking words. I can relate.

This had me on the edge of my seat. The set decoration was top notch (curved door frame! Brilliant!), and excellent use of props. I think you should win the Academy award for best use of mayonnaise in a short film.

But seriously, funny stuff. I hope you keep it up.

If I get any more positive feedback I’ll be tempted to let my new foray be known to people I know in real life… Maybe I’ll do a couple more first.

Way to go Brian. Made me hungry – but didn’t make me want to watch a hockey game!

Hey – thanks A. Mary Jane! (You probably missed a great hockey game by the way… Ended up a Leafs W in OT.)

I’m starting to get the impression that going the video route wasn’t such a bad idea. I knew it’s a more vivid and direct way to connect but I underestimated by how much…

… Maybe I’ll get set up for y’all to post video responses too…

Hoah geez: more crazy relatives leaving comments — thanks guys! (I feel like I need to come through with more high-calibre videos… I don’t know if I can sustain this level of quality though…)

As for the egg salad: handling those babies is in the blood. I was born to hard-boil.
