I wasn’t sure if I’d write anything on Remembrance Day, but then I saw this National Post editorial: Still, we risk dishonouring those Canadians who have gone to war to defend our nation and its values when we seek to revise our history and downplay our contributions to wars fought in the name of freedom. [...]

Check out this cool, minimalist McDonald’s spinoff in Tokyo: Quarter Pounder. From pictures and video on their website, it looks like they’ve conceived it like a nightclub — “big secret” — with suit-wearing ‘security guards’ and hostesses manning the door for the launch. You can’t accuse McDonald’s of not trying like mad to remake themselves. I’m totally [...]

Just going to post a brief update and drop a few ideas (continued from I’m Retiring). My posts will likely be way down this month compared to last. September and October (and the last part of August) were big blogging months for me because of all the news — the financial crisis, two elections — starting with [...]

Lately I’ve felt a recurring, physical, visceral need to wail on a guitar. I’ve been diddling around on an acoustic for six years and donkin’ on a bass for eleven, but that hasn’t been nearly enough. The type of person who subscribes to Guitar World will hold me in contempt for this, but I don’t [...]

The first time I’ve done this. Here’s a collection of stuff I liked today. (All in one easy to reach place!) – PBS Frontline: ”The War Briefing” — Powerful and informative video about the war in Afghanistan and increasing problems in Pakistan. Viewer discretion for chapter 5. – Niall Ferguson in Vanity Fair: “Wall Street Lays Another Egg” — [...]

I made this claim (here) just after the Democratic Convention, now a couple of business gurus who blog for Harvard Business Publishing are confirming it: Barack Obama is not only an exemplary political leader, but would make an exemplary business leader as well. Bill Taylor wrote today about How Barack Obama Became CEO of the USA. [...]

I’m trying to keep myself out of unproductive political commentary this week, but this column from Lorne Gunter at the National Post is so astoundingly stupid I just can’t stop myself. The criticism coming from the reactionary right reminds has degenerated into the kind of arguments I hear from people in my customer service job – merry-go-rounds of [...]

That’s right, I’ve decided to quit blogging. I’m retiring from blogging to focus on reading, writing, posting some of my ideas online, linking to interesting content from around the web, curating it, making it meaningful and relevant, adding my own commentary and criticism, pointing out insights and fallacies, telling the occasional story, stirring the pot, bringing the [...]

We’re way past “canary in the mineshaft” stuff, this kind of bad news from the auto industry is the miner in the mineshaft. From the AP story in the Globe and Mail (via Gordon), GM’s October sales dropped slightly by 45%; Ford and Chrysler “weren’t far behind.” Or to put it in perspective: If GM’s sales were adjusted for [...]
