Found myself caught up in business/management ideas again this weekend — as I do every couple of months. This time was sparked by my stumbling onto Harvard Business Publishing blogs, a great site I wish I’d known about sooner. I remember being in that vicinity a couple of years ago, looking for HBR content online (which was pricey, if I recall). This time I got there via a Portfolio pointer to Bill Taylor’s post about Zappos call centre employees who are offered a $1000 bonus to quit after their first week. That’s irresistible stuff… I mean the concept, not the offer. I love these ideas. This is why I keep coming back to business: there are infinite opportunities to do things that are so radical and original, and because you can actually accomplish or prove something at the same time, business is my favourite creative/design medium. Maybe one of these days I’ll be able to stop writing about it and start accomplishing and proving… In the mean time, check out Gary Hamel’s new book, his invitation to Help Reinvent Management for the 21st Century, and my response in the comments — where I sort of indirectly account for why I’m still just writing…
